Tesla has unveiled its fully autonomous robotaxi, called Cybercab, in Austin, Texas, as the company seeks to compete with self-driving services such as Waymo and Uber.

First revealed in October 2024, the gold-colored Cybercab has no steering wheel or pedals and can carry two passengers.

Tesla says the vehicle is designed to provide driverless taxi services and make transportation more accessible, including for elderly and disabled people.

Cybercabs have already been spotted on Austin streets, with the vehicles becoming available to selected passengers through Tesla’s dedicated app.

The company says public rides will begin from Friday, marking a significant step in Tesla’s efforts to expand autonomous transportation services.

The launch puts Tesla in direct competition with established ride-hailing and autonomous driving companies as the race to develop commercially available driverless transportation continues.
