Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter, international law, and multilateral cooperation during a meeting with Michelle Bachelet Jeria, candidate for the post of UN Secretary-General.

According to the Foreign Office, Dar underscored the UN’s indispensable role in promoting global peace, security, and sustainable development, stressing that the organization must remain responsive to the aspirations and development needs of developing countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that lasting international peace requires the peaceful settlement of disputes through the faithful implementation of UN Security Council resolutions. In this context, he highlighted the importance of resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and the Palestine issue in accordance with relevant UN resolutions.

Bachelet praised Pakistan’s continued efforts to promote regional peace and stability and acknowledged the country’s longstanding and valuable contributions to the United Nations across peacekeeping and multilateral initiatives.
