GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Amjad Hussain has directed the management of the Northern Areas Transport Corporation (NATCO) to undertake immediate reforms aimed at improving the organization’s performance, operational efficiency, and financial sustainability.
The directives were issued during a departmental briefing by the Managing Director of NATCO, where the Chief Minister reviewed the corporation’s current performance and future strategy.
Describing NATCO as a national institution, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to steer the organization out of financial losses by adopting new business models, implementing full automation, and introducing modern administrative and operational reforms.
He instructed the Managing Director to present long-term solutions to the corporation’s challenges through the NATCO Board, while stressing that the existing ban on new recruitment should remain in place as part of efforts to reduce operational losses.
The Chief Minister also called for expanding NATCO’s network of petrol pumps to generate additional revenue and improve the organization’s financial position.
Highlighting global developments in the transport sector, Amjad Hussain said modern transportation models are transforming the industry and urged NATCO to move beyond conventional practices by embracing innovation and contemporary management approaches.
He reaffirmed the Gilgit-Baltistan government’s commitment to strengthening public sector institutions through reforms that enhance efficiency, improve service delivery, and ensure long-term financial viability.
