The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a fresh spell of monsoon rains across much of the country from July 29 to August 5, warning of heavy downpours, urban flooding, flash floods, and landslides in several regions.
According to the Met Office, moisture-laden monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal will enter the upper and central parts of the country from July 29, while a strong westerly weather system is expected to intensify from August 1, increasing rainfall activity.
Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan are all expected to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms, with isolated areas likely to experience heavy to very heavy falls.
The PMD has warned that urban flooding may occur in low-lying areas of major cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Thatta, Badin, Mirpur Khas, Umerkot, and Nawabshah during the forecast period.
The department has also cautioned about the risk of flash floods in local streams and hill torrents across Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, northeastern Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and northeastern Balochistan.
In addition, landslides are possible in mountainous areas, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir, where heavy rainfall may disrupt transportation and daily life.
The PMD has advised the public, local authorities, and tourists to remain alert, monitor official weather updates, and avoid unnecessary travel to flood-prone and hilly areas throughout the forecast period.
