Early Cotton Harvest

Ali Pur: The first picking of early cotton has begun in Ali Pur Tehsil of South Punjab, raising hopes for a productive season as farmers anticipate higher yields and favourable market prices.

Known as Pakistan’s “white gold,” the cotton crop is showing promising results in the region. This year, cotton has been cultivated on 42,000 acres in Ali Pur, including 4,000 acres under early cotton, while 22,000 acres have been planted in neighbouring Jatoi Tehsil.

Farmers expect an average yield of 10 to 14 mounds per acre, supported by favourable weather conditions and improved crop management practices.

Growers say cotton prices ranging between Rs10,000 and Rs11,000 per maund, coupled with the Punjab government’s farmer-friendly initiatives, have strengthened their confidence and encouraged greater investment in the crop.

Cotton remains the backbone of Pakistan’s textile industry and a major source of export earnings. A successful harvest is expected to benefit not only farmers but also contribute positively to the country’s industrial output and overall economy.
