Augsburg’s Robin Fellhauer made Bundesliga history on Saturday after scoring the fastest goal ever recorded in Germany’s top flight during the dramatic 2–2 draw against Bayern Munich.
Fellhauer found the net after just eight seconds, breaking the previous Bundesliga record of nine seconds jointly held by Karim Bellarabi and Kevin Volland. The Bundesliga and its data provider confirmed the goal at eight seconds, while hand-timed reports put it at approximately 8.4 seconds.
Neuer Error Leads to Historic Goal
The extraordinary moment came immediately after Bayern took the kickoff.
The ball was played back to goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who attempted to lift the ball over the advancing Fellhauer. However, the Bayern goalkeeper’s touch went wrong and the ball struck Fellhauer, leaving the Augsburg midfielder with an open goal.
Fellhauer calmly finished into the empty net to give Augsburg an astonishing early advantage.
The goal was one second faster than the previous record, which had stood at nine seconds since Bellarabi scored for Bayer Leverkusen against Borussia Dortmund in 2014 and Volland matched the mark for Hoffenheim against Bayern in 2015.
Bayern Fight Back
Despite the nightmare start, Bayern recovered after the break.
Ismael Saibari equalised in the 55th minute after being set up by Harry Kane, but Augsburg restored their lead nine minutes later when Rodrigo Ribeiro converted after another Neuer error.
Bayern refused to give up and eventually found another equaliser through Nathaniel Brown in the 80th minute, with Kane providing his second assist of the match.
Bayern had several other goals ruled out for offside and Serge Gnabry hit the post late in the match as the champions pushed for a winner.
Fellhauer Makes Bundesliga History
The final result meant Augsburg earned a valuable 2–2 draw, but the major talking point was Fellhauer’s record-breaking strike.
At just eight seconds, the goal will go down as one of the most remarkable starts in Bundesliga history and gives Fellhauer a unique place in the competition’s record books.
For Bayern, the result was frustrating as they missed the opportunity to move above Borussia Dortmund at the top of the table.
