Pakistani mountaineer Asma Mushtaq has died during her descent from Spantik Peak in Gilgit-Baltistan, according to reports.
Mushtaq was returning from the high-altitude expedition when she reportedly encountered difficulties during the descent. Despite efforts to manage the situation, she did not survive.
The incident highlights the risks faced by climbers attempting some of Pakistan’s challenging high-altitude peaks. Spantik, also known as Golden Peak, attracts mountaineers from Pakistan and around the world because of its demanding terrain and extreme conditions.
The mountaineering community has expressed grief over Mushtaq’s death, remembering her contribution to Pakistan’s climbing community and her courage in pursuing high-altitude expeditions.
