Leaders of Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan on Friday signed the landmark Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, reaffirming their commitment to collective security, regional stability, and enhanced military cooperation during a high-level summit held at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah.
The summit was convened at the invitation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif visited the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on August 7, 2026, where they were received by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
According to the joint communiqué issued after the meeting, the three leaders reviewed the longstanding historical ties, brotherly relations, and strategic partnership among their countries. They also discussed a range of regional and international issues of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on strengthening defence cooperation.
The leaders formally signed the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, describing it as a significant step toward reinforcing collective security and promoting peace, stability, and prosperity across the region and beyond.
A key provision of the agreement states that any armed attack against one of the three member states will be regarded as an attack against all three, underscoring their commitment to collective defence and mutual assistance in the face of external aggression.
The agreement also provides a framework for expanding defence collaboration across all sectors, including military coordination, strategic planning, defence technology, training, intelligence cooperation, and security partnerships.
The three countries emphasized that the agreement reflects their shared determination to safeguard their national interests while contributing to regional and global peace and security through closer strategic cooperation.
The signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement marks a new chapter in trilateral relations between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan, reinforcing their long-standing partnership through an institutionalized framework for collective defence and strategic collaboration.
