Barcelona are preparing for a new era of leadership, with Raphinha emerging as the club’s first-choice captain following Ronald Araujo’s move to Liverpool. The Brazilian winger is set to take on a bigger responsibility at Camp Nou as Barça reshape their captaincy group for the 2026/27 season.

Ronald Araujo, who was part of Barcelona’s leadership group, officially joined Liverpool on loan until June 30, 2027. The agreement also includes an option for Liverpool to make the move permanent.

Araujo’s departure, together with Marc-André ter Stegen’s loan move to Ajax, has created a major change in Barcelona’s leadership structure. With several experienced figures no longer available, Raphinha has quickly moved to the front of the captaincy discussion.

Raphinha’s Rise to Leadership

Raphinha has become one of Barcelona’s most influential players since arriving at the club. His performances, personality and importance to Hansi Flick’s plans have strengthened his position inside the squad.

Recent reports indicate that Barcelona have selected Raphinha as the first captain for the 2026/27 campaign. He would become the first Brazilian to officially hold the club’s captaincy, although the final leadership structure is still subject to confirmation.

The Brazilian has also demonstrated his commitment to Barcelona by remaining at the club despite interest from abroad. His importance has grown both on the pitch and inside the dressing room.

A New Barcelona Leadership Group

Raphinha is not expected to lead alone. Pedri, Eric Garcia and other senior players are also being considered for important roles within the new captaincy group.

Frenkie de Jong remains an important figure in the leadership hierarchy, although his current injury has affected the immediate situation. Hansi Flick has also highlighted the importance of maintaining strong leadership within the squad as Barcelona continue to reshape their team.

For now, Raphinha appears to be the player stepping forward at a crucial moment.

A Bigger Responsibility for Raphinha

Taking the Barcelona armband represents a significant milestone in Raphinha’s career. The winger will now be expected to combine his attacking responsibilities with leadership on and off the field.

With Araujo beginning his new chapter at Liverpool, Barcelona are looking toward Raphinha to help guide the team through a period of transition.

The captaincy could mark the beginning of a new chapter for Raphinha — from key attacking star to one of the central leaders of Barcelona.
