RAWALPINDI, September 3: Security forces have killed 15 militants during an operation following an attempted infiltration from Afghanistan into Pakistan, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday.

According to the ISPR, the movement of a group of militants, described by the military as members of the “Indian-sponsored Fitna Al Khwarij,” was detected during the night of August 31 and September 1 along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border opposite North Waziristan District.

Security forces engaged the group after detecting the attempted infiltration. The engagement continued for approximately 36 hours, during which 15 militants were killed, according to the military’s statement.

The ISPR said a significant quantity of weapons and ammunition was recovered during a follow-up sanitisation operation in the area.

The statement said that the incident highlighted the continued threat of cross-border terrorism and reiterated Pakistan’s concerns over the presence and activities of militant groups operating from Afghan territory.

The ISPR also says the Afghan Taliban government of failing to prevent the use of its soil for cross-border attacks against Pakistan and called for effective border management and compliance with international obligations.

A sanitisation operation is currently underway to locate and eliminate any remaining militants in the area, the statement said.

The ISPR added that Pakistan’s security forces and law-enforcement agencies remain committed to countering terrorism under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” framework, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan.
