RAWALPINDI, August 23, 2026: The federal government has authorized the deployment of three companies of the Pakistan Army in Rawalpindi for six months to perform sensitive security duties.

The deployment was approved under Article 245 of the Constitution, which allows the armed forces to assist civil authorities when required.

According to an Interior Ministry order dated August 21, the deployment was approved following a request from the Punjab Home Department.

Army Deployment Approved for Security Duties

The government said the troops would be deployed to help authorities prevent any undesirable situation and respond effectively to unforeseen circumstances.

The order also stated that the Army personnel would operate according to the requirements of the district administration.

The deployment has taken effect immediately and will remain in place for six months, according to the notification.

What Article 245 Means

Article 245 provides a constitutional framework for deploying Pakistan’s armed forces in aid of civil power.

In this case, the federal government has authorized the Army’s presence in Rawalpindi specifically for sensitive security responsibilities.

The order does not provide further public details about specific locations or operations where the troops will be deployed.

Rawalpindi Steps Up Security Arrangements

The Army deployment comes as authorities in Rawalpindi continue to focus on maintaining law and order and strengthening security arrangements.

Punjab police officials have also recently reviewed security preparations in the Rawalpindi region, including arrangements for upcoming religious processions and gatherings.

The presence of Army personnel is expected to provide additional support to the district administration when required.

Six-Month Deployment

The authorization covers a period of six months with immediate effect.

Officials have not indicated whether the deployment will be extended after the six-month period. Any future extension would depend on the security situation and the requirements of the authorities.

For now, the decision gives Rawalpindi’s administration additional support as it works to maintain security and respond to potential emergencies.
