A Greek Air Force jet crashed at an air show north of Athens, killing both pilots. Thousands of people were attending the event.
The twin-seat Phantom F4 jet crashed during a low-altitude maneuver. A fire broke out after the crash and sent large plumes of black smoke into the air. No spectators were injured.
Greek Air Force officials said rescuers located the bodies of both pilots. The rescue operation was initially hampered by the fire at Tanagra Air Force Base, about 60 kilometers north of Athens.
Organizers canceled the remaining events planned for the weekend. The fire also prompted an evacuation order for an area near the base.
