The death toll from last month’s devastating twin earthquakes in Venezuela has risen above 5,000, according to National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez.
In a post on Telegram, Rodriguez said more than 5,000 people had lost their lives as a result of the powerful back-to-back earthquakes, marking one of the country’s deadliest natural disasters in recent history.
Thousands of people remain displaced, while rescue and recovery operations continue in the worst-affected areas. Authorities are working to provide emergency shelter, medical care and humanitarian assistance to survivors as efforts to restore damaged infrastructure continue.
The updated death toll highlights the scale of the disaster, with officials warning that the number of casualties could change further as search teams continue their work in affected communities
