Islamabad, August 1: President Asif Ali Zardari has congratulated the government and people of Switzerland on the occasion of the country’s National Day. In his message, he extended his best wishes to Swiss President Guy Parmelin and expressed hope for continued peace, prosperity, and stronger bilateral relations.

President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Switzerland in areas of mutual interest. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening the longstanding friendship between the two countries.

Switzerland Celebrates Its National Day

Switzerland celebrates its National Day every year on August 1. The occasion marks the founding of the Swiss Confederation in 1291, when the three original cantons—Uri, Schwyz, and Unterwalden—formed a historic alliance.

The event symbolizes Switzerland’s unity, independence, and democratic values. It remains one of the country’s most important national celebrations.

Nationwide Celebrations

National Day is celebrated across Switzerland with fireworks, cultural festivals, parades, traditional music, bonfires, and community gatherings. People proudly display the Swiss flag while taking part in events that reflect the country’s rich heritage.

Thousands of visitors also travel to popular destinations, including Zurich, Bern, Lucerne, Geneva, and the scenic Swiss Alps, to experience the festive atmosphere.

A Message of Friendship

As Switzerland marks National Day 2026, the celebrations highlight more than seven centuries of history while reflecting the country’s commitment to peace, freedom, stability, innovation, and international cooperation.

President Zardari’s congratulatory message underscores the value Pakistan places on its friendly relations with Switzerland. It also reflects Islamabad’s desire to further deepen bilateral cooperation and strengthen ties in the years ahead.
