PESHAWAR: The Private Schools Regulatory Authority (PSRA) has made it mandatory for all private schools and colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to obtain and maintain approved building plans and relevant permissions from the competent building control authorities.
According to a notification issued by the authority, all private educational institutions have been directed to verify the approval status of their building plans and obtain necessary approvals from the relevant building control authority.
Schools and colleges have also been instructed to keep copies of their approved building plans and permits available at their premises for inspection by authorities.
The notification states that no construction or addition of floors will be allowed without prior approval from the competent authority. Approval will also be required for expansion of school buildings, installation of rooftop cabins and construction of temporary classrooms.
The PSRA further directed educational institutions to comply with notices issued by building control authorities within the stipulated time.
The authority clarified that registration with the Private Schools Regulatory Authority does not serve as a substitute for approval of building plans or structural fitness certification from the relevant authority.
In cases where a school building has been declared unsafe, educational activities will not be allowed to resume until written safety clearance is obtained from the competent authority.
The PSRA warned that legal action would be taken against private educational institutions found violating rules and regulations concerning school buildings.
Copies of the notification have been sent to all deputy commissioners and the relevant building control authorities for implementation.
