WARSAW: Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said that regional security risks are increasing following recent Russian attacks in western Ukraine near the Polish border.

Speaking after a Russian aerial strike in the border region, Tusk said Polish authorities are closely monitoring developments and assessing potential threats arising from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He noted that Poland remains in coordination with its NATO allies and is maintaining heightened vigilance along its eastern frontier.

The latest attack prompted Poland’s military to activate standard air-defense procedures, including the deployment of fighter aircraft and increased monitoring of national airspace. Authorities also implemented temporary operational measures at some airports as a precaution.

According to reports, the Russian assault involved a drone targeting locations in western Ukraine, an area situated close to NATO territory. The incident follows another recent strike near a railway facility close to the Polish border.

Polish officials have not reported any direct attack on Polish territory. However, the proximity of military operations to the border has continued to raise concerns among neighboring countries regarding regional security and the risk of accidental spillover from the conflict.

Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Poland has been one of Kyiv’s key supporters and has played an important role in providing humanitarian, military, and logistical assistance. The country has also strengthened air-defense and border-monitoring measures in response to repeated incidents involving drones and missiles operating near NATO airspace.

The developments come as fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces continues across multiple regions of Ukraine, with neighboring states maintaining a heightened level of readiness amid ongoing security challenges.
