TARANTO, Italy: The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) has released the latest Baseball5 World Rankings, with the 2026 Baseball5 Mediterranean Cup triggering notable changes among the world’s leading teams. Tournament champions Türkiye climbed to eighth place, while runners-up France advanced to third in the global standings.

Despite the reshuffle, Cuba retained the No. 1 position with 5,827 ranking points, ahead of Chinese Taipei, which remained second with 4,801 points. France’s rise to 4,636 points saw it overtake Japan, which dropped to fourth with 4,385 points.

Türkiye’s triumph at the Mediterranean Cup in Taranto proved decisive in its rankings boost. The champions defeated Spain in a tightly contested three-set semifinal before overcoming France in another three-set final to lift the title. The victory elevated Türkiye one place to No. 8 with 3,130 points.

France also benefited from its runner-up finish, moving into the world’s top three for the first time in the latest rankings update.

Bronze medallist Spain climbed one position to 11th with 2,135 points, while Tunisia, which finished fourth in the tournament, maintained its sixth-place ranking with 3,790 points. Host nation Italy, finishing fifth, remained in 14th place with 1,472 points.

The biggest mover in the latest rankings was Syria, which surged 16 places, the largest jump among all nations following its performance at the Mediterranean Cup.

The updated rankings underscore the rapid growth of Baseball5 across Europe, the Mediterranean region, and beyond, with emerging nations continuing to narrow the gap on the sport’s traditional powerhouses.

  1. Cuba – 5,827 points
  2. Chinese Taipei – 4,801 points
  3. France – 4,636 points
  4. Japan – 4,385 points
  5. Mexico

The latest rankings reflect the increasing competitiveness of international Baseball5 as teams prepare for upcoming WBSC competitions and qualification events.
