ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s armed forces have carried out precision aerial and drone strikes against 10 locations in Afghanistan, targeting terrorist hideouts, support infrastructure and sites used to launch and store drones.
According to Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, the strikes followed an attempted drone incursion from Afghan territory on September 23. Pakistan says its air-defence systems detected, tracked and neutralised the intruding drones before they reached their intended targets.
Targets Linked to Attacks Inside Pakistan
Pakistan said the locations targeted in the latest strikes were linked to terrorist attacks inside the country, as well as the recent attempted drone intrusion.
The government said the targeted infrastructure included drone launching and storage facilities and other support sites associated with militant activity.
Islamabad described the strikes as deliberate and limited to identified military objectives directly connected to threats against Pakistan.
The latest action comes amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. On September 23, Pakistan reported shooting down eight drones that entered its airspace from the Afghan side, with four reportedly intercepted near the Torkham border and four in mountainous areas adjoining Kohat.
Pakistan Vows to Defend Its Territory
Pakistan said it would continue to defend its territorial integrity and protect the lives and property of its citizens against what it described as externally sponsored or sheltered terrorist threats.
The government has repeatedly raised concerns over militant groups operating from Afghan territory. Earlier this week, Pakistan also reported airstrikes against militant targets in Afghanistan, while Afghan authorities and the United Nations reported civilian casualties in the September 21 strikes.
Islamabad has maintained that its military actions are focused on militant infrastructure and has said it does not seek escalation. The Pakistani government reiterated that position while warning that further attacks against its territory would receive a response.
