MUSCAT: One Indian sailor was killed after a commercial cargo vessel travelling from the United Arab Emirates to India came under attack by an unidentified aerial object off the coast of Oman, near Lima.

The vessel, identified as MSV Al Jussufi, was carrying 14 Indian crew members at the time of the incident. According to the available information, the attack resulted in the death of one sailor, identified as Gandhar Naeem Ajiz, who hailed from the Indian state of Gujarat.

Following the incident, Omani Coast Guard personnel launched an immediate rescue operation and successfully evacuated the remaining 13 crew members. All 13 sailors were rescued safely.

The incident has sparked serious concern in India, with the Indian government expressing strong condemnation over the attack and the loss of life.

Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Oman is in continuous contact with local authorities to coordinate the necessary arrangements for repatriating the deceased sailor’s body to India and ensuring the welfare and safety of the surviving crew members.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over maritime security in the region, particularly the safety of commercial vessels and their crews operating along important shipping routes in the Arabian Sea.
