ISLAMABAD: Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has warned the Afghan Taliban regime against providing support and safe havens to militant groups allegedly involved in terrorist activities targeting Pakistan, saying continued inaction could have serious consequences.
Speaking in an interview with a foreign media outlet, Lt Gen Chaudhry alleged that India was sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan and accused the Afghan Taliban regime of acting as a proxy for Indian interests. He called on Kabul to take immediate action against cross-border militant networks operating from Afghan territory.
The military spokesperson identified banned organizations, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), among the groups allegedly involved in activities threatening Pakistan’s security. He also referred to the presence of international militant organizations, including Al-Qaeda, Jaish al-Adl and Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), in the region.
According to the DG ISPR, Pakistan has repeatedly raised concerns over the alleged presence of militant safe havens, weapons stockpiles and operational networks in Afghanistan. He stressed that the country’s primary demand is for the Afghan Taliban administration to prevent its territory from being used by groups targeting Pakistani civilians and security personnel.
Lt Gen Chaudhry also urged the international community to press the Afghan Taliban authorities to take effective measures against terrorism, dismantle militant networks and fulfil their international counterterrorism commitments. He further highlighted concerns regarding narcotics production and the activities of international militant organizations in Afghanistan.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s defence preparedness, the DG ISPR said the country’s armed forces possess the operational capability to respond to security threats originating from across the Afghan border. He added that security forces remain prepared to counter cross-border infiltration and potential aerial threats, including hostile drone attacks.
He emphasized that Pakistan would continue taking measures to protect its territorial integrity, safeguard its citizens and counter militant threats.
The remarks come amid continuing security concerns along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border and Islamabad’s repeated calls for Kabul to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory to launch attacks inside Pakistan.
