Lahore: Pakistan is set to host a major international taekwondo event as the 8th World Taekwondo President’s Cup 2026 – Asian Region will be held in Lahore from August 17 to 21, bringing together some of Asia’s top athletes and teams.
Announcing the event at a well-attended press conference held at the Royal Swiss International Hotel, Pakistan Taekwondo Federation Chairman Colonel (R) Wasim Ahmed Janjua, accompanied by the federation’s Patron-in-Chief and the Secretary of Para Taekwondo, described the tournament as a landmark moment for the country’s sporting landscape.
“This will be the first time in the history of taekwondo that Lahore hosts a world-class event of this magnitude,” Janjua said.
The five-day championship is expected to feature around 200 athletes from nearly 35 countries. According to the organizers, 24 countries have already confirmed their participation, while registrations from the remaining nations are expected to be completed by the first week of August.
Responding to a question, Janjua said hosting the prestigious tournament in Pakistan is a significant achievement and will provide the country’s athletes with invaluable international exposure ahead of future global competitions, including the Olympic qualification pathway.
The President’s Cup is regarded as one of the premier events on the Asian taekwondo calendar, offering competitors the opportunity to earn valuable international ranking points while showcasing elite-level competition.
