LAHORE: Prime Minister’s Coordinator Rana Ehsan Afzal Khan has said that the future of Pakistan’s auto industry is tied to competitive localization and electric mobility, and that the industry must move quickly toward modern technology and electric vehicles.
Addressing the PAPAM Symposium 2026 in Lahore, he said the purpose of localization should be to achieve global competitiveness, better quality and a wider choice for consumers. He said the government would formulate fair, consistent and future-oriented policies for the auto industry.
Rana Ehsan Afzal said the auto sector contributes about 4 percent to the national economy and provides employment to millions of people. He noted that behind every vehicle stands a vast supply chain, including parts manufacturers, engineers and technical experts.
He said the growth and resilience shown by the auto industry despite economic difficulties were commendable. To compete in the global market, he added, the industry must give priority to innovation and quality.
During the event, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator visited the stalls of local and international companies. He also held meetings with representatives of emerging companies that manufacture electric vehicles.
