North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has pledged to strengthen relations with China during a meeting with a senior Chinese official, marking the 65th anniversary of the two countries’ landmark friendship treaty, according to state media KCNA.
The meeting highlighted the enduring alliance between Pyongyang and Beijing, with Kim reaffirming his commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and preserving the longstanding partnership.
The Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance, signed in 1961, remains the cornerstone of relations between North Korea and China. The anniversary comes as both countries continue to emphasise strategic cooperation amid shifting regional and global security dynamics.
China remains North Korea’s largest trading partner and closest diplomatic ally, with both governments regularly stressing the importance of maintaining stability and cooperation on the Korean Peninsula.
