Tharparkar, Pakistan – August 1: A tragic lightning strike during heavy monsoon rains claimed the lives of three people, including a 14-year-old boy, in Sindh’s Tharparkar district on Friday. Three other individuals were injured in the incident and are receiving medical treatment.
According to local rescue officials, the victims were working in agricultural fields near Garho Kachhela village, on the outskirts of Islamkot, when intense rainfall and thunderstorms swept across the area. As the weather worsened, the group sought shelter beneath a tree. Moments later, lightning struck the location, killing three people instantly.
The deceased have been identified as *Taj Muhammad Shah, **Sajan Meghwar, and **14-year-old Amrit Meghwar. The injured—identified as **Rajesh, **Teerath, and *Umar Otho—were shifted to Taluka Hospital in Islamkot, where doctors said they are receiving medical care.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms affected several parts of Tharparkar, including Islamkot and Nagarparkar, disrupting daily life and raising concerns about public safety during the ongoing monsoon season. Local authorities have urged residents, especially farmers and people working in open fields, to avoid taking shelter under isolated trees during thunderstorms, as they are particularly vulnerable to lightning strikes.
Tharparkar has witnessed repeated lightning-related tragedies in recent years, with monsoon storms posing a serious threat to rural communities whose livelihoods depend on farming and livestock. Weather experts continue to advise people to monitor forecasts and seek safe shelter inside sturdy buildings whenever thunderstorms develop.
