TEHRAN: Ansarullah leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi has said Yemen’s September 21, 2014 revolution secured freedom and independence for the country and laid the groundwork for ending what he described as U.S. domination.
Al-Houthi made the remarks in a speech on Monday marking the anniversary of the 2014 revolution, according to Iran’s state news agency IRNA.
He said conditions in Yemen before the revolution demonstrated the need for such a movement, arguing that the country had been deprived of independence and placed under foreign influence.
According to al-Houthi, the U.S. ambassador had exercised significant influence over Yemen’s decision-making process before the revolution. He also claimed that U.S. forces had established military bases, including in the capital, Sanaa.
Houthi Vows Continued Confrontation
Al-Houthi said confrontation with the United States and forces aligned with Washington would continue as long as he claimed the U.S. sought to dominate Yemen and transform the country into a network of military bases.
He portrayed the 2014 movement as a turning point in Yemen’s political history, saying it had challenged foreign influence and strengthened the country’s pursuit of independence.
The remarks come amid continuing regional tensions involving Yemen, the United States and other regional actors.
The statements regarding the extent of U.S. influence and military presence in Yemen were made by al-Houthi and reflect his political position.
