KARACHI: The Sindh Cabinet on Wednesday approved a series of key policy decisions, including the formation of specialized task forces on water resources, climate change and artificial intelligence (AI), aimed at addressing the province’s emerging challenges through expert-led recommendations.
Speaking after the cabinet meeting, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the government would engage experts in the respective fields, whose recommendations would help shape future policies and strategic decisions.
The cabinet also approved a six-month extension of the health insurance programme for government employees, ensuring the continuation of medical coverage for public sector workers across the province.
In another significant decision, the cabinet approved stricter laws against the manufacturing, sale and transportation of gutka and mainpuri, reinforcing the government’s campaign against hazardous and addictive substances.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said the Sindh Narcotics Control Department would be granted enhanced legal authority through new legislation to take action against those involved in the illegal trade. He added that a province-wide crackdown would be launched following the enactment of the law.
He further stated that the revised legislation would introduce tougher penalties for individuals involved in the sale and distribution of gutka and mainpuri as part of the government’s commitment to protecting public health and curbing drug-related crimes.
