BEIJING: China has expressed its willingness to continue working with the United States following the Republican Party’s reported setbacks in the US midterm elections, emphasising the importance of cooperation and mutual respect between the two countries.
According to foreign media reports, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said the US elections were an internal matter of the United States and that Beijing was ready to work with Washington to implement the understandings reached between the leaders of both countries.
Mao stressed that China remained committed to promoting stable bilateral relations through mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and cooperation.
She added that maintaining respectful relations was essential for managing differences and expanding areas of cooperation between Beijing and Washington.
China Calls for Cooperation Despite Political Changes in US
China’s response comes after a significant shift in the US political landscape following the midterm elections, which reportedly dealt a major blow to President Donald Trump’s Republican Party.
Beijing’s statement signals its intention to maintain engagement with Washington despite changes in the American political environment.
The Chinese government has repeatedly emphasised the need for dialogue and cooperation to manage differences between the world’s two largest economies.
Iran Says American Voters Have Rejected War
Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also reacted to the Republican Party’s reported election setback, describing the results as a rejection of war by American voters.
Ghalibaf said Americans had said no to war, whether motivated by their conscience or concerns about their livelihoods.
He added that Iran supported the mandate expressed by the American people through their votes.
His remarks appeared to link the election outcome to public dissatisfaction with the Trump administration’s policies, particularly its approach to international conflicts.
Republicans Face Major Political Setback
The US midterm elections have reportedly dealt a significant blow to Trump’s Republican Party, with Democrats making major gains and securing control of the Senate, according to the supplied election reports.
The outcome could reshape the political balance in Washington and influence the Trump administration’s ability to advance its domestic and foreign policy agenda.
China’s emphasis on continued cooperation and Iran’s interpretation of the election results highlight the international attention surrounding the changing political landscape in the United States.
