KABUL: Armed resistance against Afghanistan’s Taliban government appears to be intensifying, with anti-Taliban groups claiming a series of attacks targeting senior officials’ convoys and security checkpoints in different provinces.
The anti-Taliban groups, the National Independence Front and the Afghanistan United Front, have issued statements claiming responsibility for recent operations in Badakhshan, Kandahar and Sar-e-Pol provinces.
According to the National Independence Front, a rocket attack targeted the convoy of Abdul Mateen Saeed, Deputy Minister of Mines under the Taliban administration, in Badakhshan province.

The group claimed that six security guards accompanying the deputy minister were killed and five others injured in the attack.
Meanwhile, the Afghanistan United Front claimed that its fighters carried out an armed operation against a Taliban checkpoint in Arghandab district of Kandahar province, killing one Taliban member and seizing a large quantity of weapons.
In a separate claim, the group said its fighters attacked a Taliban security post in Al-Badr district of Sar-e-Pol province. It claimed that following an intense clash, the fighters took control of the checkpoint, killing one Taliban member and injuring three others.
The latest claims come amid continued reports of armed opposition to Taliban rule in Afghanistan.
The Taliban administration has not yet issued an official response to the reported incidents.
