ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has launched its nationwide monsoon tree plantation campaign, setting a target of planting 41 million saplings across the country by October as part of efforts to expand forest cover and strengthen climate resilience.
The campaign encourages citizens, government departments, educational institutions and communities to take part in plantation activities. Officials have emphasized that increasing tree cover is important for tackling climate change, protecting ecosystems and improving environmental conditions.
The nationwide campaign is being implemented through federal and provincial authorities, with plantation activities planned across different regions of the country. The government has also stressed that protecting newly planted trees and ensuring their survival will be as important as achieving the plantation target.
Pakistan is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, including extreme heat, floods, droughts and changing rainfall patterns. Expanding forests and restoring degraded land are therefore considered important components of the country’s broader environmental strategy.
The government has previously conducted seasonal plantation campaigns under the Upscaling of Green Pakistan Programme, with plantation activities taking place during both spring and monsoon seasons.
The latest campaign aims to encourage greater public participation in environmental protection while contributing to Pakistan’s long-term goal of increasing forest cover and building a greener and more climate-resilient country.
