Baghdad: Nearly five million foreign pilgrims have travelled to Iraq to participate in the Arbaeen pilgrimage, one of the world’s largest annual religious gatherings commemorating the fortieth day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS).

Foreign pilgrims walk along a road in Iraq during the Arbaeen pilgrimage as security measures remain in place.

According to Iraqi media, citing the Iraqi Security Information Unit, more than 4.4 million pilgrims have entered the country through land border crossings and international airports, with the flow of visitors towards the holy city of Karbala continuing smoothly.

Officials said the comprehensive security plan for Arbaeen has been implemented successfully, with no security breaches reported so far. Authorities added that military, intelligence and service agencies are working in close coordination to ensure the safety, security and smooth movement of millions of pilgrims throughout the event.
