WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has claimed that Israel and the entire Middle East might not exist today if he had not prevented Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
In a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said that no one wanted to acknowledge the claim, although, according to him, everyone knew it was true.
The remarks come as Trump has recently acknowledged that the unpopularity of the war against Iran and the resulting increase in global inflation played a significant role in the Republican Party’s heavy defeat in the US midterm elections.
US Vice President JD Vance has also admitted that the war with Iran was one of the major reasons behind the Republicans’ electoral setback.
Trump’s latest comments highlight the administration’s continued defence of its policy towards Iran, despite the political and economic consequences of the conflict.
